Top Putin Propagandist Found Dead, Mystery Arises

( – A top propagandist for Russian President Vladimir Putin has turned up dead, marking one more mysterious death among the controversial leader’s most vocal supporters. Few details are available, but officials say the person appeared to have been poisoned, although the substance that killed her remains unidentified.

Zoya Konovalova, 48, was the chief editor of Kuban, a Russian-run television company. Her body was discovered in her home near the remains of her 52-year-old ex-husband, who was also apparently poisoned. Both had been deceased for at least 24 hours before they were found, and police didn’t detect any visible injuries on either victim.

There’s still no word on what type of poison killed the former couple, but investigators reportedly found part of a polymer bag containing a “powdery substance” in the propagandist’s home. Friends and coworkers insist Konovalova wouldn’t have knowingly taken any drugs. The Investigative Committee’s Krasnodar department is reportedly examining the case.

Numerous other prominent individuals in Russia have died of mysterious causes since the Kremlin invaded Ukraine in February 2022, according to Newsweek. Among them is another journalist from Russia, Alexander Rybin, who was reported dead on January 7. His body was found by a highway near Shakhty, a Russian city that borders Ukraine. The details behind the cause of Rybin’s death have remained undisclosed.

In December, the deputy editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, a healthy 35-year-old, died just days after she suddenly fell ill with a fever and lung infection. Her boss, Vladimir Sungorkin, who had worked as the publication’s editor-in-chief, died in September 2022 after exhibiting signs of suffocation and succumbing to a heart attack. Ilya Kyva, a former Ukrainian MP who called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “cocaine addict,” was also recently found dead “covered in blood.” In all, according to The Mirror, at least a dozen people have died under similarly unusual circumstances.

Konovalova leaves behind a 15-year-old daughter and an older son.
