(RepublicanReport.org) – On July 21, President Joe Biden shared a letter he reportedly wrote on social media, explaining that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. While many speculated who would replace him on the ticket, he quickly endorsed his vice president to run in his stead. While not yet official, Democrats are rallying around VP Kamala Harris for the nomination, shining a spotlight on her record in public service.
Before becoming vice president, Harris served as a US senator for California, ran briefly for president in 2019, was elected twice as the San Francisco district attorney, and was the attorney general for the Golden State for five years. Recent reports show that her previous positions — and the current one — weren’t without controversy. Voters looking into her past might find issue with what they find, putting her ability to win the presidency into question.
In 2015, when she was the California attorney general, Harris was reportedly scolded by a judge for defending a conviction that was obtained, in part, by police allegedly using a false confession. The prosecutors also reportedly lied under oath and withheld key evidence in the case, leading to the conviction. Harris was also criticized for how she responded to misconduct accusations by police and prosecutors in Orange County.
More recently, throughout her tenure as vice president, Harris has faced harsh criticism about how she allegedly treats people who work for her and her response to the border crisis. Soon after winning her position, Biden named Harris as Border Czar, tasking her with leading the efforts to secure the border. Former Commissioner of Customs Border Protection Mark Morgan called Harris’ job completing this task an abject failure. He said, “Harris has seen the worst unmitigated border security crisis in our lifetime.”
Open the Books CEO Adam Andrzejewski reported a 92% turnover rate in Harris’ office, which doesn’t bode well for a presidential position that requires communication and cooperation with leaders not only in the US but around the world.
