(RepublicanReport.org) – The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement originated 11 years ago following George Zimmerman’s acquittal for shooting and killing Trayvon Martin. In the years that followed, BLM organized around tragedies to spread their message, most recently in 2020 with the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Recently, the group released a statement about Vice President Kamala Harris.
After President Joe Biden announced he was stepping down from the 2024 presidential race and the party rallied around Harris as his replacement on the top of the ticket, BLM lashed out. The group said the US is not a “dictatorship,” adding that simply installing a Democratic nominee “without any public voting process” would be hypocritical for the Democratic Party. BLM then demanded that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “host an informal, virtual snap primary” before the convention so everyone can voice their choice for the pick.
The note went on to say that this was “unprecedented” territory, calling on the Rules Committee to formulate a process by which the public can participate in the nomination, considering the primary was already completed. BLM stated it didn’t want delegates to unilaterally choose who to nominate. It accused the elites and billionaires within the Democratic Party of trying to “manipulate Black voters” by rallying around Harris and whoever her pick for vice president might be. BLM indicated it didn’t know much about the VP and where she stands on important issues — something the group seemed concerned about.
BLM leader Shalomyah Bowers wanted to make it clear that the group was not intentionally attacking Harris, per se, but the “nominating process” itself. She indicated that Americans across the country should have a say in a democratic society.
Vice President Harris has already started on the campaign trail, and her first stop was in Milwaukee. The DNC is scheduled to hold its conference in mid-August, at which point the nominee will be selected and a VP pick likely announced.
