Rapinoe Calls Playing for U.S. Team “Worst Job in the World”

(RepublicanReport.org) – Megan Rapinoe, the former US women’s soccer player who said in November that her torn Achilles’ heel was proof there is no God, recently slammed the organization that brought her fame and fortune. The athlete said playing for the US team was the “worst job in the world.” She made the statement in a Netflix documentary that followed her team’s reach for its third International Federation of Association Football Women’s World Cup in a row.

Rapinoe shares her feelings in the limited series “Under Pressure: The US Women’s World Cup Team.” The documentary chronicles her team’s 2023 failed attempt to continue their winning streak, which ended early into the season. The US Women’s National Team only played four games, winning its first match, which was against Vietnam. But then, the next two games, against the Netherlands and Portugal, ended in ties. They lost to Sweden on a penalty shot on August 6, after holding a 0-0 tie throughout the rest of the game. Rapinoe was one of three players who missed their penalty kicks and helped to clench their defeat.

The pressure of her job was the worst part of being an athlete, according to Rapinoe, who expresses disapproval over the fact that she had to perform at her very best during every game. She explains that any slip left her open to criticism, which she implies was somehow unfair.

Rapinoe made a name for herself with her outspoken attitude and social activism, which didn’t always sit well with all her fans. She protested the opening National Anthem at multiple games, stating that as a gay woman, she didn’t feel that the country had her back. Her career ended roughly three months after the Women’s World Cup defeat, when OL Reign played against Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League Final on November 11. The player, who had been planning on retiring after the championships, severely injured herself just minutes into the game.
