(RepublicanReport.org) – Air raid sirens awakened Israeli citizens and residents in the nation’s central and southern regions in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 6. Those alarms marked the beginning of thousands of rocket attacks striking major cities like Jerusalem and Tel Aviv by Hamas, a militant Sunni-Islamist fundamentalist group considered the dominant arm of Palestinian politics. Recent reports indicated that law enforcement agencies across the United States placed security at Jewish synagogues as Israel fights to restore order.
America has historically been one of Israel’s staunchest supporters. For example, former President Harry S. Truman (D) was the first world leader to recognize the creation of the Jewish state in May 1948. Since then, every presidential administration has stood behind America’s long-standing commitment to help defend the country.
As a result, apparent concerns have been raised about the safety of America’s Jewish population in the wake of the terrorist attack on Israeli territory, the worst invasion by a foreign hostile force since the Yom Kippur War, or Ramadan War, of 1973.
The political and law enforcement heads of several major US cities announced the decision to initiate security forces at Jewish synongues and temples shortly after the start of the conflict.
New York’s Democratic Mayor Eric Adams issued a statement Saturday announcing that the city mobilized “resources on the ground” in Israel to gather intelligence regarding possible threats on US soil. He also said he directed the NYPD to “deploy” additional officers to protect Jewish houses of worship and communities citywide.
Likewise, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin (D) issued a press release advising that law enforcement officials would be “increasing patrols in sensitive areas,” including Jewish and Islamic houses of worship.
Similarly, the Miami Beach Police Department announced its decision to augment “police visibility” near Jewish synagogues throughout the city. Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore issued a similar statement advising that his department would conduct extra patrols to protect the city’s Jewish and Muslim communities. Houston and Miami-Dade officials announced similar protections for Jewish synagogues.
