Parasite Actor Lee Sun-kyun Found Dead In An Apparent Suicide

(RepublicanReport.org) – Born in 1975 in Seoul, South Korea, Lee Sun-kyun studied acting at the Korea National University of Arts and went on to become an award-winning actor with 47 credits to his name. His performances include roles in “A Hard Day,” “My Mister,” and — most recently — “Sleep.” But many likely recognize the actor from his performance in the 2019 Oscar-winning thriller “Parasite.” Sadly, the popular film actor was recently found dead in his car.

On December 27, the Associated Press reported that police and emergency officers found the 48-year-old actor deceased in his car, locating him through his cellphone signal. Authorities had been searching for the artist after receiving a report from his manager that he was missing. His disappearance followed weeks of investigation by police into his alleged drug use. According to The New York Times, Lee denied the drug use allegations, saying he was the target of a blackmail scheme.

According to Newsweek, Lee was only one of many celebrities under drug investigations. The others included rapper G-Dragon and eight others.

While several outlets have reported Lee died of an apparent suicide, authorities in South Korea refused to confirm that as the cause of death. One news agency in his country reported that the family told police the actor left a message that appeared to be a suicide note. Jeon Yu-deung, the chief detective at Seongbuk police station, confirmed that report. Although his death is still under investigation, police are reportedly treating the case as a suicide.

Lee was nominated for Best Actor in 2022 for his role in “Dr. Brain” at the International Emmy Awards. He also won a Screen Actors Guild award, along with his castmates, for his work in “Parasite.” The accomplished actor was married to another actor, Jeon Hye-jin, at the time of his death. The couple have two sons together.
