(RepublicanReport.org) – While President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, has made it clear that Vice President Kamala Harris will be his running mate again this November, the GOP VP pick isn’t so clear. Former President Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee and has yet to choose who will accompany him on the ticket. It seems that some believe one person, in particular, is a top contender for VP.
Recently, Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) told The Hill that he believes Senator JD Vance (R-OH) would make a “great vice president.” While Donald Trump Jr. didn’t exactly come out and mention Vance as a solid pick for VP, he told the news outlet that the Ohio senator had a “spine of steel and isn’t afraid to fight.” He said Vance puts America first and has been a “courageous warrior for [his] father.” The Ohio lawmaker said that Trump hadn’t asked him directly to be his running mate but said he could “be ready” to serve in that capacity if asked.
While Vance used to tout himself as a “Never Trump guy,” he changed his mind over time and is now a staunch supporter of the former president — despite his felony status. The lawmaker has spoken out against the judicial system as it pertains to Trump, indicating the charges and trial were politically motivated. It’s unclear if Vance would boost the ticket or harm Trump’s chances at victory.
The former US leader has been very tight-lipped about who he plans to choose to join him on the ticket in November, assuming he is the GOP nominee. A Morning Consult poll taken the day after the verdict showed that 15% of Republicans and 49% of Independents believe Trump should end his campaign. However, that’s not likely to happen.
The Republican National Convention starts July 15, and Trump will likely receive the nomination there. He previously indicated that’s where he might make his VP announcement.
