New Hampshire Governor Sununu Endorses Nikki Haley

(RepublicanReport.org) – Thirteen people are currently competing for the job of president of the United States in 2024. Three for the Democratic party, three more are running third-party, and the remainder — seven total — are campaigning on the Republican ticket. While there are two clear frontrunners for each major party, one contender for the GOP just received an endorsement from the governor of the first primary state.

On December 12, The Daily Wire reported that New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) endorsed former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley for president. The outlet called the backing a big victory for the former SC governor who is trying to take the top in the GOP primaries. Currently, former President Donald Trump is favored with a 49.4-point lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and 50.2 points ahead of Haley, according to FiveThirtyEight as of December 14.

In New Hampshire, the same polling source showed the former ambassador in second, trailing Trump by only 25.5%. She holds a 5.7% lead over fellow GOP candidate Chris Christie and sits 9 points ahead of DeSantis in that state.

The Associated Press detailed Sununu’s endorsement of Haley, which took place during a campaign town hall in Manchester. The governor said the candidate’s Republican values align with his state’s motto — “Live Free or Die.” Sununu said New Hampshire has an “opportunity…to lead this country” by voting for Haley in the primary election. While he thanked Trump for his service while he was president, he said it was time to move on. The governor said, “This is New Hampshire, and we go forward.”

Haley was happy about the support, stating the endorsement was “about as rock solid” as her campaign “could hope for.” She was “thrilled” to receive Sununu’s backing.

With six weeks to go before New Hampshire votes in the primaries, it’s unclear if Sununu’s declaration will affect the race, given Trump’s lead.
