GOP Senator Says Trump’s VP Pick Will Be A Surprise

(RepublicanReport.org) – While the presidential primary nominations for the Republican and Democratic parties are not yet official, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are both the presumptive candidates. The US leader’s running mate for the general election will be Vice President Kamala Harris, but Trump’s pick isn’t so obvious, leading to many speculating who he might choose.

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) recently spoke to POLITICO about the names floating around as Trump’s possible running mates. He said it won’t be any of them, saying the names coming out are “all propaganda.” Tuberville indicated that those people are putting their own names out there for the press, urging everyone to meet any possible choices that don’t come from Trump or his campaign with skepticism. The lawmaker admitted that the former president asks about people, but is keeping his actual list secret.

Multiple people familiar with the process of choosing a VP candidate stated Trump’s campaign hired an outside firm to research people to develop a short-list. One particular person with ties to the Trump campaign said the former US leader was planning to make this a lengthy “Apprentice”-style process.

The former president previously said his number one priority is to pick someone who could possibly run the country in his absence. Trump mentioned Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) to Maria Bartiromo in a recent interview when asked about a VP pick. However, he didn’t exactly say he was considering either one.

In addition to Scott and Noem, possible picks could include Senators JD Vance (R-OH), Katie Britt (R-AL), and Marco Rubio (R-FL). Representatives Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY) could also be on the short-list, in addition to former Representative Tulsi Gabbard (R-HI). In addition to Noem, a couple more governors could be under consideration, including Sarah Huckabee Sanders (AK) and Doug Burgum (ND). But, according to Tuberville, it could be someone else entirely.
