(RepublicanReport.org) – Democrats have stubbornly held by their chosen front-runner for the primary elections despite concerns across party lines that President Joe Biden may be too old to run for another term. Rumors have been flying that the Left is planning a last-minute switch, but many people, like former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), are convinced the Dems are “stuck” with Biden.
Santorum recently joined the discussion on “Newsline,” where he said Democrats would have Biden as their only choice unless the current president decided he no longer wanted to run. The former senator sat down with host Bianca de la Garza, where he rejected the idea that another popular Democrat might step in at the 11th hour to relieve the 81-year-old incumbent.
Rumors have mounted that California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is considering a 2024 White House bid, according to The Hill, but the West Coast liberal has repeatedly rejected the idea. He claims Vice President Kamala Harris would be the next choice among the possible contenders if Biden were suddenly unable or unwilling to continue. Newsom adds that he doesn’t believe a replacement will be necessary, insisting that the president “is going to be fine.”
Santorum doesn’t buy Newsom’s claims. He believes the California governor is, indeed, positioning himself to take the reins, but for the time being, he’s playing “the good soldier” for the Left. The ball is in Biden’s court, according to the former Pennsylvania senator, meaning an alternate will only be an option if the sitting president wants out of the race. He said that if Biden has enough delegates backing him to get the nomination, then, it will be his for the taking regardless of what most Democrats want.
The most recent Gallup poll shows only about 38% of US adults approve of Biden’s job as president. His handling of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the economy, the war between Israel and Palestine, and immigration are among the people’s top issues with his administration.
