Bill Barr Tips His Hand At Who He’ll Back For 2024

(RepublicanReport.org) – Attorney Bill Barr has a long history in government. After graduating from Columbia University, he worked for the CIA as an analyst, and in the legal department before earning his Juris Doctorate and working on former President Ronald Reagan’s Domestic Policy Council. His most recent position was under former President Donald Trump as the US attorney general.

On February 18, The Daily Wire reported that Barr recently indicated he would back Trump in the upcoming election, despite the bad blood that has transpired between the two since he left his job as AG. Barr has been very critical of Trump since 2021, speaking out about the former president’s numerous pending criminal court cases. Trump, in turn, has verbally attacked Barr, even calling him a “gutless pig” at one point.

According to Townhall, Barr said Trump returning to the White House in 2024 would be a “horror show” where he would deliver “chaos.” Still, his recent revelation indicates his belief that four more years with President Joe Biden would be worse.

According to Axios reporter and co-founder Mike Allen, Barr spoke at a Forum Club of Southwest Florida lunch in Naples, Florida, where he indicated in a match-up between Trump and Biden, that he would vote for the former. Allen quoted him as saying, “Voting for Trump is playing Russian roulette,” but “voting for Biden is outright national suicide.” While Barr didn’t come out and back Trump or say how exactly he would cast his vote, the attorney suggested he could back the former president if there was no Biden alternative.

Although a match-up between Biden and Trump isn’t guaranteed, GOP and Democratic polls indicate that will likely be the case. Average polling by FiveThirtyEight on February 19 shows Trump ahead of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley by 61.1%. Average polling from the same source shows Biden ahead of Democrat Dean Phillips by 68.1%.
