The correspondent’s words reflect those of a growing number of Americans who are concerned about the current leader’s mental competency. Biden insists all the worry over his mental fitness is “stupid.”
Justin Baragona, senior reporter for The Daily Beast, shared the clip, which originally aired on Fox News Sunday, on X/Twitter. It depicts correspondent Lucas Tomlinson yelling over a crowd in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Saturday, November 25, asking Biden if he’s too old to seek office again. The president smiles while he snaps at the reporter.
The Hill reports that the White House fired back over the exchange, calling Tomlinson’s questioning a “political attack.” It adds that Biden and Fox News have had a rocky relationship throughout his presidency, and the White House has been quick to dismiss and disparage the news station’s criticisms of his performance. The commander-in-chief reportedly called reporter Peter Doocy “a stupid son of a b****” in 2022 in response to an inquiry about the country’s skyrocketing inflation.
Regardless of Biden’s opinions, his age is a real concern — one that could ultimately hand the presidential win in 2024 to the GOP nominee. The headlines have been mounting, with recent airings of “The Big Weekend Show” and “Sunday Morning Futures” among the numerous broadcasts that have focused on the issue. The Associated Press, in association with NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found that 77% of polled US adults felt Biden was too old to be an effective leader for another term. This figure includes 89% of Republicans and 69% of Democrats.
Concerns have been heavy enough to prompt 61 congressional Republicans, led by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), to demand that Biden pass a mental competency test or back out of the race. The president has yet to submit to a cognitive evaluation.
