Biden Says Gaza Hospital Blast Not Carried Out by Israel

( – A recent explosion in Gaza left al-Ahli Hospital in rubble, and both Israel and Palestine are placing the blame on the other. An estimated 500 Palestinians, many of whom had been taking shelter there after they’d received orders to evacuate, died in the assault. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and military personnel say a stray rocket from one of Hamas’ attempted attacks — not an Israeli missile — hit the building. US President Joe Biden supports his ally’s statement.

The blast occurred on the evening of Tuesday, October 17. Biden arrived in Israel the following morning, where he met with Netanyahu in Tel Aviv for a press conference. Insider Paper shared a clip on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, of the US president’s response to Israel’s allegations. Biden stated that, based on his observations, “the other team” did indeed appear responsible. He also noted that not everyone was confident about the explanation, and it presented another set of hurdles for the leaders to overcome.

Biden’s words sparked outrage among a handful of extreme left-wing lawmakers. Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI), a Palestinian Muslim American, along with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), also a Muslim, both criticized the president for allowing the war to escalate. The two Squad members demanded that he immediately call for a cease-fire.

Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), who also spoke out against the violence, took a calmer approach, urging her peers to work with her to find a way to end the conflict. She introduced legislation on October 16 to push for a cease-fire in both Israel and Palestine, stating that the federal government has the diplomatic power to save lives and offer humanitarian relief to devastated areas.

The war, which began when Hamas struck Israel on October 7, slaughtering people in their homes and on the streets, has claimed at least 1,400 Israelis and 2,700 Palestinians. A spokesperson for Hamas told Newsweek that the terrorist organization blames not only Israel, but also the United States, for the recent hospital attack.
