Biden Hit With Federal Charges for Evading Tax

(RepublicanReport.org) – In September, a grand jury in Delaware charged Hunter Biden for allegedly making false statements on a form when he purchased a firearm in 2018. According to the indictment, Biden affirmed that he was not using narcotics, but the state said he was in the throes of addiction at the time. His attorney, Abbe Lowell, claimed her client did not violate the law. Now, Biden faces new charges that Lowell believes are politically motivated.

On December 7, the Department of Justice indicted Hunter Biden on nine tax-related charges. According to the legal filing submitted by Special Counsel David Weiss, the defendant allegedly failed to pay his taxes from 2016 to 2019. Instead, he reportedly spent the money on an “extravagant lifestyle.” Axios reported prosecutors believe Biden withdrew money from his company, skirting proper tax laws.

Lowell said if her client had any other last name, he wouldn’t be facing “charges in Delaware” or California — where the gun charges and tax charges were filed, respectively. In fact, NBC News previously reported that experts say the charges against the president’s son are rarely prosecuted. According to Lowell, Hunter Biden subsequently paid those taxes in full two years ago, stating the long investigation into her client produced “no new evidence” to warrant the charges. She accused Weiss of “bow[ing] to Republican pressure.”

Hunter Biden previously had a plea deal in place that would’ve spared him prison time. The deal was that he would plead guilty to the tax charges and the gun charge would be dismissed. However, US District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika refused to accept the deal waged between the prosecution and defense. In response, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the tax charges.

Hunter Biden could spend up to 17 years behind bars if found guilty of the charges against him. The White House has not officially commented about the ongoing cases against the president’s son.
