AOC Urges New York To Seize Trump’s Assets

(RepublicanReport.org) – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is known for her “no-holds-barred” style of discussing issues she considers important. The influential member of “The Squad” recently spoke out about New York Attorney General Letitia James’ (D) efforts to collect the nearly half a billion dollars in disgorgements entered against the former president during his recent civil trial.

AOC, as Ocasio-Cortez is called by friends and foes, sat down for an interview with CNN “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper on Sunday, March 24. He asked her about Trump’s struggles to secure a roughly $464 million bond to protect his assets from seizure while he pursues an appeal before the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division by Monday’s deadline.

The New York lawmaker responded that “ultimately,” the decision rests with James. However, AOC noted her belief that “all people should be treated equally” in the eyes of the law. She explained that if any other defendant faced the seizure of their assets if they failed to post a bond, the former president “should be treated the same.”

Fortunately for Trump, the New York appeals court issued an order the following day granting him limited relief over his bond payment obligation. The court’s two-page order stayed James’ enforcement of the judgment order for 10 days from the date the court issued its order (April 4). The appeal court also lowered the amount of his bond to $175 million.

However, the court’s order upheld Trump’s bar on serving as an officer or director of any NY corporation for three years. Likewise, the appellate judges left the lower court judge’s decision to bar the former president and his fellow corporate defendants from applying for loans from New York-based financial institutions for the same time frame. The New York appellate court conditioned its decision on Trump’s legal team “perfecting” their appeal by the panel’s September 2024 term.
