AOC: Prosecuting Trump Is Like Putting ‘An Ankle Bracelet Around Him’

(RepublicanReport.org) – In 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) won her congressional race to become the US representative for New York’s 14th district. At 29, the Democrat was the youngest woman elected to Congress in the history of the United States. The Bronx native recently had a few things to say about former President Donald Trump and his rally in her backyard.

On May 23, AOC briefly spoke to the press ahead of Trump’s rally. She said the former president wasn’t visiting the South Bronx to “make a point,” but it was more a matter of practical convenience. She said he basically had the “legal version of an ankle bracelet around him,” tying him to the area “because he always has to be in court.”

Trump’s first criminal trial has been ongoing in Manhattan since April 15. The representative said she was “looking forward” to hearing what her constituents thought of his visit.

Former Trump campaign worker Steve Cortes shared a clip of her remarks on social media alleging the rep “accidentally [said] the quiet part out loud.” He said she was “brag[ging} about how the Democrats’ lawfare” was forcefully keeping him in the Big Apple. The former president was indicted by a grand jury full of New York residents on 34 counts of falsifying business records. His fate will also be decided by a jury of his peers in Manhattan.

Regarding his visit to the Bronx, AOC said the rally was merely a fundraising tactic to cover his “mounting legal fees” and an “attempt to…trick some voters here.” The NY lawmaker said she was curious about the makeup of the crowd rather than the size, concluding that perhaps the audience would be full of traveling supporters rather than locals.

After the rally, Trump said he had wondered if he would be met with hostility or friendliness. He said it ended up being “beyond friendly,” stating it was a “love fest.”
