Tense Armed Standoff Goes Strangely

(RepublicanReport.org) – Interactions between police and armed members of the public rarely unfold smoothly. Even if no one ends up getting hurt, it’s a tense, stressful, and often time-consuming situation. A scenario like this unfolded in Florida recently, but it featured a bizarre plot twist.

The story begins in Dunedin, FL, where police members engaged with an 18-year-old suspect named Myles Abbott. He had allegedly fired a gun at people in the area and then fled from officers and made his way onto the roof of a house. The resulting standoff would go on for six hours.

While this was happening, a Massachusetts woman arrived on the scene naked, drunk, and driving a golf cart. Jessica Smith (28), a Boston native, reportedly had a “distinct odor” of alcohol emanating from her person. She managed to steer the golf cart around several police vehicles as officers tried to close off the scene and defuse the standoff with the armed teenager on a rooftop. Officers eventually managed to pull her from the cart and handcuff her.

While Smith’s actions sound like they came straight from the plot of a comedy film, she did put “multiple deputies at risk” from gunshot wounds from the rooftop where Abbott was held up, according to investigators. She now faces a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

Meanwhile, according to the county sheriff, Abbott was eventually taken into custody and charged with loitering and prowling, aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, weapons charges, and resisting an officer without violence.

The Abbott and Smith incidents were not connected in any way.
