Ex-Trump Staffers Say Cohen Is Lying

(RepublicanReport.org) – Donald Trump is currently facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in a Manhattan courtroom. The state believes his lawyer paid off his one-night stand to stay quiet just before the 2016 presidential election to help Trump win. The former president then allegedly paid his attorney back but cooked the books to make it seem as though he was paying legal fees. That lawyer, Michael Cohen, recently took the stand for the prosecution.

On May 16, two people who previously worked for the defendant said Cohen lied on the stand about wanting to work in the White House. Former Trump/Pence campaign communications director Bryan Lanza said he believed “Cohen was pretty adamant” about his desire to be White House counsel in the Trump administration. Lanza said, at least to him, Cohen made his desire “pretty clear.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously worked for several Republican lawmakers, said she heard secondhand that Cohen was “angling for attorney general or to be White House counsel.” She claimed there were “dozens of people around Washington” who could back her up but didn’t name one. Griffin also said she wanted to see defendant Trump convicted but admitted that she wouldn’t be able to find him guilty on Cohen’s testimony alone.

Luckily for the prosecution, most of Cohen’s testimony was already corroborated by other witnesses throughout the trial, given the attorney’s history of lying and criminal record. Those people included David Pecker, Rhona Graff, Gary Farro, and Keith Davidson.

Griffin and Lanza’s claims about Cohen previously wanting to work in the Trump administration appeared to be second-hand. Even if true, CNN legal analyst Elie Honig believes Cohen’s testimony about the matter wasn’t clear enough to constitute perjury. The Trump trial is nearing an end and the jury could reach a verdict as soon as the coming month.
