Fetterman Blasts Ocasio-Cortez For Suggesting That He’s A Bully

(RepublicanReport.org) – On the evening of May 16, the House Oversight Committee was at work to discuss a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt. During the session, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) insulted Representative Jasmine Crockett’s appearance, prompting Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to call for a point of order to strike Greene’s words — the GA rep insulted her as well. Fetterman reacted to the chaos on his X/Twitter account, attracting a response from AOC.

After the incident, Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) equated the chaos in the House to “The Jerry Springer Show” before apologizing to “The Jerry Springer Show.” Ocasio-Cortez responded to his post, stating that while he might “not have stood up for [his] colleague,” she would — and did. She indicated that Greene’s words were racially motivated, stating racism and misogyny are issues on both sides of the political aisle. AOC said she “stand[s] up to bullies, instead of becoming one.” Many news outlets took that to mean the NY rep was calling Fetterman a bully.

The Pennsylvania senator addressed the issue on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Jake Tapper, who asked him about the implication that he was a bully. Fetterman said that was “absurd,” adding that he was only commenting on the “chaos and everything that Representative Greene started.” The lawmaker explained to Tapper that if the committee was “proud” of what happened and would feel comfortable showing a video of their meeting to middle school kids taking a civics class, “that’s their choice.” AOC didn’t comment further about the matter.

Ultimately, Ocasio-Cortez’s demand to have Greene’s comments stricken from the record was met. However, the committee chair allowed her to continue speaking throughout the meeting, and Greene doubled down on her insults toward Crockett and AOC. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called the incident “regrettable” but didn’t indicate there would be any additional consequences.
