However, could corruption and abuse of power in the Kremlin run deeper than that? A new controversy has erupted in Russia due to the death of a scientist in suspicious circumstances.
The son of Dmitry Kolker, a prominent Russian scientist who died while in the custody of Russia’s government, has accused the Kremlin of being responsible for his death. Kolker had been suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer when members of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) placed him under arrest on spying charges.

Following his arrest, Dmitry Kolker was flown to the Lefortovo prison, where he was scheduled to remain in custody for two months. However, he died in a hospital bed later that day. According to the Kolker family, the scientist was unable to consume food without assistance at the time of his arrest.
The Kolker family has strongly refuted the claims made against the deceased scientist, claiming he loved his country. Son Maxim Kolker slammed the authorities for not giving the family a chance to say goodbye and accused them of “pulling [Dmitry Kolker] out of the hospital while knowing what condition he was in.”
