Putin Tries To Restore Calm After Mutiny Attempt By Troops

(RepublicanReport.org) – Russia’s Wagner Group is notorious for being one of the most deadly mercenary groups in the world. Known for using horrific tactics, these highly trained soldiers work all over the globe. However, their leader Yevgeny Prigozhin recently alleged that the Russian military recently killed dozens of his soldiers in Ukraine, pushing him to lead a revolt against President Vladimir Putin. While the government tamped it down before bloodshed, the nation and its citizens are quite unsettled.

On Saturday, June 24, Prigozhin rallied his troops to try and hold leadership in Moscow responsible for what he believes are “mistakes” it made in the Ukraine war, according to BBC. The Wagner Group took the city of Rostov-on-Don during their days of rebellion before Prigozhin called it off. The Kremlin and Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made a deal with Prigozhin that if he would move to Belarus and send all his troops back to their base, all criminal charges would be dropped. According to flight tracking from Flightradar24, a plane owned by Prigozhin landed in Belarus on Tuesday, and Lukashenko confirmed he had arrived.

According to Newsmax, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin told listeners on Monday that the government needs “to ensure the sovereignty and independence of our country, the security and well-being of citizens.” The same day, Putin called those involved in the rebellion “traitors” that were trying to start a civil war to throw Russia into “a bloody domestic strife,” according to NBC News. While the actions are trying to reassure Russian citizens, many are still tired of the ongoing war in Ukraine that began in February 2022.

While Putin and his men successfully defused this crisis and got the Wagner group back to their base, the entire nation has now seen a public attempt to confront Putin for his military actions. Could this move possibly encourage other groups to rebel or join together to protest this drawn-out war that most believe Russia can’t win?
