Police Assassinate Man After Targeting Wrong House

(RepublicanReport.org) – On April 5th, officers with the Farmington Police Department in New Mexico responded to a domestic violence call. Upon arrival, a man met them in his doorway, where police claim he pointed a gun at them, leaving officers no choice but to shoot and kill him. However, authorities were at the wrong house — meaning they killed Robert Dotson by mistake.

Killing an Innocent Man

The officers arrived at the scene in response to a domestic violence report at around 11:30 p.m. Body cam footage shows that authorities realized they were at the wrong address; they were supposed to go to house number 5308 but instead went to 5305, just before 52-year-old Dotson answered the door.

Luis Robles, the attorney representing officers Waylon Wasson, Dylan Goodluck, and Daniel Estrada, claims they were left with no choice after Dotson answered the door, armed with a handgun. All three officers opened fire on the 52-year-old. Dotson’s wife can be heard screaming in the graphic video.

The fatal shooting is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police. The District Attorney for the state’s 11th Judicial District will determine whether or not anyone involved will be facing charges after the state police concludes its investigation and submits a report.

The three officers had repeatedly knocked on the door and made their presence known, identifying themselves as Farmington Police before backing away from the home. It was at this time that Dotson opened the door and allegedly pointed his gun at the officers, leading to the three of them shooting him. Chief of Police Hebbe noted the 52-year-old didn’t do anything wrong during his appearance on “Dan Abram Live.”

A Family’s Fury

Dotson’s family believes the officers should face murder charges and that they would be going to a federal court to file a civil lawsuit. According to Farmington Daily Times, the grieving family has also called for Police Chief Steve Hebbe to resign. Shon Northam called the shooting an assassination of the 52-year-old. Dotson’s widowed wife, Kim, expressed her anger during a press conference.

Mrs. Dotson mentioned being upset by the fact that Goodluck, Estrada, and Wasson were all placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete. The family’s attorney explained they were waiting until the New Mexico State Police completed their investigation to file a lawsuit. The family’s legal counsel called the police department’s recollection of the shooting a “ridiculously false narrative.”
