National Divorce: Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls for Changes

( – When married people have their differences and can’t overcome them, they typically end up getting divorced. In a similar vein, Republicans and Democrats certainly have their differences. There’s no doubting that. Representative Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has become known for controversial statements, but her most recent could take the cake. MTG has renewed her calls for a “national divorce.”

The Call for Change

The Georgia Republican took a similar stance in late 2021 when she claimed “Democrat voters and big donors” were ruining states, using California as an example. In her old tweet, MTG also noted that people moving from blue states to red states need a “cooling off period.”

The congresswoman is once again calling for a “national divorce.” The Georgia Republican declared that “red states and blue states” need to separate from each other. MTG claims such a move would result in a smaller federal government and give power back to the states. The congresswoman declared, “we are done,” citing “traitorous America Last policies” and “disgusting woke culture” being “shoved down our throats.”

MTG’s renewed call for drastic change came not long after she criticized President Joe Biden on Twitter for his recent visit to Ukraine. She mentioned how he didn’t visit East Palestine, Ohio, where a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed and resulted in an environmental crisis. Greene also went on “The Charlie Kirk Show” and declared that if Democrats choose to move to a red state from a blue state, they shouldn’t be able to vote for at least five years.

Bad News for Greene

Some may take MTG’s comments as a call for civil war. The US faced a similar situation in the 1860s when the South decided to secede from the US, resulting in the Civil War. After the Union’s victory over the Confederacy, the US Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional for a state to secede from the US. So even if states wanted to split from each other, they’re unable to, making it impossible for Greene’s “national divorce” to become a reality.

Another problem that arises with MTG’s shocking idea is the Constitution grants all American citizens over 18 the right to vote, regardless of who they are or where they’re from. In other words, red states can’t prevent Democrats from coming to their state and voting however they feel fit — and vice versa. So, it doesn’t look like there will be a national divorce anytime soon.
