Kevin McCarthy Gets STANDING OVATION After What Happened
(RepublicanReport.org) – One of the main challenges the Democratic Party has faced recently is division among its ranks. The party’s radical wing, comprising lawmakers like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), have clashed with moderates time and again. The Republican Party has been more cohesive, which may be why Liberals are now trying to sow division within the ranks of the GOP.
McCarthy Defends Himself Following Leak
On Tuesday, April 26, the New York Times released new audio clips of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) discussing the aftermath of the January 6 riot at the Capitol Building. He named lawmakers whose commentary he was unhappy with in the wake of the incident, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
On the call, McCarthy said he intended to contact Gaetz to get him to reverse course with some of the rhetoric he was issuing around the riot. House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) even speculated it might have been illegal. The conversation also mentions Reps. Barry Moore (R-AL), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), and Mo Brooks (R-AL).
During the same phone call, McCarthy can apparently be heard stating then-President Donald Trump should resign.

On Wednesday, McCarthy spoke on this issue in the House. He defended himself, saying he was simply exploring different potential outcomes on the call and was not explicitly advocating the resignation of Donald Trump, as some media outlets were reporting.
Where Does the Republican Party Stand?
The core of the House GOP appears to be behind McCarthy. Media sources reported he received a standing ovation following his speech on the issue. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) was among those to praise the GOP’s top House lawmaker, telling Politico he was in favor of McCarthy becoming the next Speaker. Jordan also shared he wanted to see former President Trump win back the White House.
Source in the room confirms McCarthy received a standing ovation. “He’s widely supported. Will be speaker,” the source added. https://t.co/6K0GnK8OpL

Understandably, though, not every conservative lawmaker is pleased with McCarthy. Matt Gaetz and Steve Scalise strongly criticized the House Minority Leader in a statement on Tuesday. Gaetz accused the pair of siding with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in her impeachment fight against former President Trump. He also implied they were more concerned about securing political donations than standing up for political ideals.
