Iran Arrests People Allegedly Responsible for Killing Nuclear Scientist

(RepublicanReport.com) – The most senior nuclear scientist in Iran was murdered on November 27 in an attack state authorities denounced as an act of terror. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was believed by Western authorities to be involved in a secret nuclear weapons program at the time of his death, though Iran denies the existence of such a project.

On Tuesday, December 8, an Iranian government source revealed a number of individuals had been placed under arrest in relation to the assassination. Iran initially blamed Israel for the attack; Israel would neither confirm nor deny its involvement. There’s also been some speculation that American intelligence services were involved.

There’s been some disagreement about the way in which the shooting was carried out. Initial reports talked of a shootout between assailants and Fakhrizadeh’s bodyguards; later, however, a Revolutionary Guard commander stated a satellite-controlled machine gun was the murder weapon.

The fate of those under arrest is not yet clear. Whatever the outcome, however, this story will be closely watched by American military officials.
