(RepublicanReport.com) – US-China relations have disimproved considerably this year. First was the COVID-19 pandemic, for which Donald Trump and many others blamed the Chinese Communist Party. Then came the revelation China had undertaken a number of attempts at election interference in advance of this year’s presidential vote. Recently, it’s come to light that Chinese authorities may have planted a spy among senior American politicians, with one of the targets being Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA).
On Tuesday, December 15, 17 Republicans penned a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) requesting that she remove Swalwell from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. This group deals with some of the most highly classified government information in existence.

Authorities first speculated that Fang Fang (also known as Christine Fang) may have been an undercover operative in 2015. Swalwell cut ties with her at that time; however, members of his family remained friends with her on Facebook until last week.
The extent to which Swalwell was compromised is, as of yet, unclear. However, it’s obvious he did not approach this matter with the appropriate degree of care when the possibility of Fang Fang’s true identity first became apparent. In the interest of national security, the responsible course of action here is to remove him from his position.
