This isn’t such a big deal when you’re buying toys or cheap electronics; however, when it’s life-saving drugs you’re purchasing, it’s a much more significant concern. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now drawing attention to potential issues with medicines coming out of China.

The FDA has highlighted the fact that many drugs coming from China do not undergo the same rigorous trials developers in the West use to verify quality in their products. As a result, advisers are concerned Chinese drugs may not be fit for consumption by Americans and are warning they may not grant FDA approval to certain medicines.
Of particular concern is that Chinese clinical trials often use only Chinese test subjects. In order for a drug to be suitable for use in the US, experts say, it should undergo trials using American subjects.
While the issues are surrounding Chinese drug manufacturing processes, this crackdown will also affect American companies. For example, pharma giant Eli Lilly was preparing to take a Chinese lung cancer treatment and market it in America at a lower price than similar competitors. This may no longer be possible now.
