FBI Addresses Concerns of Election Interference

(RepublicanReport.com) – After the spate of allegations about Russian interference in the wake of the last presidential election, federal agencies have been on high alert this year. On Wednesday, October 21, two senior intelligence officers briefed the press about attempts from Iran and Russia to influence this year’s election.

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and FBI Director Chris Wray spoke about an email campaign that Iranian operatives orchestrated. Posing as Proud Boys, the domestic far-right group, people in Iran sent intimidating emails to American citizens. They also distributed disinformation about election fraud. The content of the emails would have been politically damaging for President Trump, if their recipients believed they were genuine.

These revelations are disturbing, to say the least. That said, it should never come as a surprise when other countries seek to corrupt our political processes; the US will always be a target. With that in mind, it’s encouraging to see our intelligence agencies detecting and stopping these cyberattacks.
