Biden Asks Where Deceased Lawmaker Is During Event
(RepublicanReport.org) – Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) died tragically in a road accident back in August, along with two of her staffers and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash. President Joe Biden raised some eyebrows when making an address to the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health on Wednesday, September 28.
Biden paid tribute to the bipartisan group of lawmakers who worked to organize the event, including Walorski. When he came to her name, he appeared to hesitate before asking, “Where’s Jackie?”
A number of mainstream media outlets picked up on the odd comment, and several reporters questioned White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about it later that day. Jean-Pierre claimed the deceased Congresswoman was “top of mind” for the president when he mentioned her during his speech because Walorski’s family was set to visit the White House later in the week.
The press secretary stressed the importance of the event and of Walorski’s contribution in the effort to fight food insecurity — the deceased lawmaker served as co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus.
White House spokesperson Robyn Patterson offered a statement to Fox News about the president’s comments, saying Biden “speaks directly and candidly,” but that he isn’t afraid to “add context” to things he’s said if necessary.
