(RepublicanReport.org) – On July 15, Donald Trump announced his selection of Senator JD Vance (R-OH) as his running mate for the November presidential election. The Biden campaign weighed in on the former president’s decision by attempting to smear the senator’s reputation.
President Joe Biden’s campaign Chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, released a statement about the pick. She said the reason Trump picked Vance was “because [the senator] will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6.” Dillon claimed the lawmaker would do anything to “enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda” — including “breaking the law.”
The Biden campaign chair added that Vance will try to advance and implement Project 2025, a far-right radical agenda concocted by the Heritage Foundation. Indeed, the head of the group seemed elated about Trump’s VP pick. However, Trump has made it crystal clear that he does not endorse Project 2025. He has also repeatedly stated that he doesn’t agree with many of the positions presented by that plan.
Despite the Biden campaign’s take on Vance’s ascension, the Ohio senator brings several important things to the Republican ticket. For example, he’s a well-respected lawmaker who aligns with the population of midwest states, which could guarantee a Trump victory in November.
Likewise, Vance is an outspoken supporter of the MAGA movement and has mass appeal to the Republican base. Perhaps his best quality could be his unflinching support for hot topics like establishing a nationwide abortion ban with no exceptions, paving the way for Trump to avoid having to address them.
Presidential candidates typically use their running mates to address controversial issues to increase the overall appeal of the ticket to party hardliners and moderate voters.
Donald Trump Jr. said he believes Vance was an “incredible pick,” but given his previous rhetoric about the former president and his far-right views, it’s unclear how Trump supporters will respond to the choice.
