4 Dead, 10 Shot in California Mass Shooting

(RepublicanReport.org) – A popular California biker bar became the scene of a mass shooting after a gunman allegedly opened fire to kill his estranged wife. The tragedy left four people dead, including the suspect, and several others injured. Sadly, the alleged perpetrator was a retired Ventura Police Department sergeant.

Fox News reports that the August 23 shooting began around 7 p.m. at Cook’s Corner, a popular motorcyclist destination since the 1970s. Many members of law enforcement are also apparently regulars at the establishment, which features weekly dinner specials and live entertainment.

The gunman, identified as John Snowling, had reportedly been stalking his estranged wife, according to The New York Times; she was one of his victims at the bar. Law enforcement arrived minutes after receiving 911 calls and recovered at least one weapon from the scene. Officials couldn’t confirm that police fire was responsible for the suspect’s death, but the evidence points to a possible officer-involved altercation.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, confirming at least one officer had fired shots. It added that no members of its force suffered any injuries during the altercation. Snowling died at the bar, while six surviving victims — two in critical condition — were taken to hospitals.

This recent shooting is just the latest in a string of violent attacks in California. The liberal state has some of the most restrictive laws on gun purchases, and yet it’s seen multiple shooting events in 2023 alone. A January 6 incident in San Francisco left one person dead and three others injured. Ten days later, in Goshen, another gunman killed six more people. Another person died, and three more people were wounded when someone opened fire the following month in Stockton. Yet another shooting in April left an additional four people injured.

Officials report that the investigation into the Cook’s Corner shooting is ongoing.
